Smart Goal
Setting
SMART goals are
Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-based. |
Smart goal setting should make you push
yourself further than you thought you could go. If you’re hitting
every goal you make, what’s the challenge? Setting smart goals
is an effective way to stay motivated and keep your life, career,
relationships and business focused in the direction you choose.
Smart goal setting is a strategy to check that your goals are
Specific, Measurable, Action oriented, Realistic, and Timed.
Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time based. Use this
strategy to create powerful, obtainable, and harmonious goals in
your life. All you need is a pen, paper and a few minutes of time,
and you’ll be on your way. Specific and measurable relate to how you
phrase your goal. Vagueness goes hand in hand with lack of genuine
commitment.
Your stated goals must be specific in behavioral terms, achievable
within a given time and with readily defined
standards of success.
Plan long term goals, follow with mid term goal and finally short
term goals. Specific: Is your goal or resolution specific enough?
Often people confuse goals with wishes or dreams. Specific goals are
written out clearly and have a set time frame. When you write out
your goals, state what you want, and give it a deadline.
If you're in business challenge every
member in your organization to think in multicolor. Every leader has
the potential and motivation to do big things, but the leaders who
actually achieve results do so by setting goals. Challenging goals
are more motivating because it is much more of an accomplishment to
attain a difficult goal.
Remember to think about the things you want to achieve in your life
and use them as examples as you progress through the goal-setting
process. Remember both big and small successes. Write them down and
read them out and reinforce them by hearing, writing, speaking and
being physically involved. Also remember to keep it positive and
focused on what you want to bring in!
Remember to set a deadline. A goal without a deadline is simply a
dream.
